Best way to reduce overall body fat percentage!?
I am looking for some advice on how to reduce my body fat percentage. I am 29 years old 5ft 10 and currently weigh just under 165lbs (down from roughly 200lbs). I work out at the gym 5 times a week and do a mixture of cardio & weight training. I do not really want to lose anymore weight but from what i understand it is neccessary if i want to lower the bodyfat percentage & achieve a flatter stomach. My intention is to get my bodyfat down and then to start puttin the weight back on but as muscle not fat. I am currently tryin the atkins induction phase to kick start the weight loss (but dont think i will stick to it for very long) as it seems to have reached a point with normal methods where it isnt really working as well as it was. Any advice would be appreciated, thanx
Stop with all the weights for now, and concentrate on cardio to burn your fat. Aim for at least 30 mins a day, the more the better, you need to keep this up if you want results.
Also about your diet, no stupid diet like atkins is going to help unless you do it for the rest of your life. Eat a balanced healthy diet, make sure you have lots of fresh fruit and vegetables and that you drink plenty of water.
Also, to lower your body fat percentage you are going to have to lose weight, but this okay, because once you think you have lost some of your fat, you can begin to tone yourself, as sometimes if you still have some fat and you get muscle, it will push your fat out more, so tone AFTER.

jumping rope good method for weight loss?
is jumping rope the best form of excercise as opposed to say running on a treadmil or walking,i want to loose fat overall and tone up so would this be one of the best ways to achieve it?
Walking and running are a little better then jumping rope but jumping rope for 15 minutes burns about 150 calories and I’d say is easier.

One pound of fat = 3500 kcals; so to lose or gain 1 lb per week, you would need to have a deficit of 500 kcals/day (to lose weight) or an increase of 500 kcals/day (to gain weight).
To successfully lose (stored) fat weight (and preserve lean muscle mass), it’s recommended to lose only 1-2 lbs per week. If you lose weight too quickly, you will lose some fat, some water, and also lean muscle mass, which can negatively impact your basal metabolic rate (metabolism).
QUESTION: What would be the best weight loss method to achieve this deficit in kcals and WHY??:
A) eat 500 kcals/day less,
B) exercise 500 kcals/day more, or
C) a combination of both—consume 250 kcals less and exercise 250 kcals more daily?
I am leaning toward C because it seems like the power of exercising and cutting back calories would make the most effective weight loss, but I don’t exactly know WHY.

The general recommendation is to cut back 500 calories a day. This can actually be quite easy (i.e. Don’t drink soda , drink water instead… Or eliminate a snack). Read the Time Magazine article on why exercise is not always the best weight to lose weight. People can often overestimate how many calories it takes to burn off food. For example you have to do a lot of exercise to burn off a big high fat/high calorie meal.
On the other hand if you do weight bearing exercise you gain muscle which causes your body to burn more calories all the time. That’s why it is often easier for men to lose weight

I am trying to lose weight. I just turned 15, I am a male, my height is 5 foot 9.6 inches (176.8 cm) and my weight is 209.5 pounds (95 kg) I checked online, and my ideal weight is 156-174. This doesnt sound right. (None of my friends who are the same height are that light and some of them are stick-thin.) I also am wondering if this calculation changes depending on muscle mass, because I have a lot. I know that many fat people say this, but I actually am fit, I do exercise, but when I don’t I become fatter. (I look thin at around 180 pounds) But my original point was, how much should I lose. What method should be used to do so? How long would it take? What weight will give me the longest life? What commitment would it require? (I ask this because I am working at a university hydraulics lab for all of August, and i am going to eat at restaurants frequently) So what should I do? Please specify calorie intake, calorie output, and how much sugar/protein/fat/carbohydrates can be consumed.
If you are indeed as muscular as you say, you should get a body fat test done. This will give you a better idea of how much weight you need to lose. A normal male should be between 14-17 percent body fat, anything over 17 percent would be time to start dieting.
Here’s a good trick, when you are a prospective member of many health and fitness clubs you can talk to a trainer and have them test your body fat, you of course don’t have to tell them you have no intentions of joining the gym.
I was a teen dieter, forced by my parents and grandmother to be on Weight Watchers, I think the experience has had long term effects on my body image, I will never be thin enough.
