Fat Loss Methods
Why such emphasis on weight to join the military?
Alright guys. Here’s the deal. My desire is to serve in the Armed Forces. Initially, I was 254 lbs at 68.5 inches tall (I’m a guy). I took the asvab about two weeks ago and scored an 83 on it. I met with my National Guard recruiter yesterday where he made copies of my birth certificate, SS card, HS diploma etc. When we got to my weight, he measured me and I came out at 242.8 lbs, 43 inch waist and 16 in neck. I’ve been jogging 3 miles a day and walking 3 miles a day 5 days a week for about the past month (hence the reduction), but my recruiter informed me that I needed to cut an additional 6 lbs before we can proceed any further. At present I am at 31% body fat, but simply losing 6 lbs doesn’t equate to being within the allowable 26%.
By my calculations, I would actually need to lose 12 lbs to be within the 26%. Whose math is wrong here???(mine or my recruiter)
I am unemployed, I live with my mom and “healthy” is not a term I would use to describe our past eating habits. In short, I cannot afford to shop healthy and as I look around the room , all I see is popcorn. I take Mega Men Sport daily and drink a gallon of water a day, sometimes more, because I sweat SOOOOOOOOOOO much. If I do indeed only need to lose 6 lbs, I am game, but I feel I need to go ahead and go beyond that mark.
Any suggestions on dieting tips and enhanced weight loss methods would be GREATLY appreciated as I do not know if the 12lbs I lost is my plateau and for all intensive purposes I have got to get out of my mom’s house, lol.
Sorry guys, I forgot to mention my age, I’m 24 and I turn 25 next month. Its probably irrelevant as all hell (lol), but I know there are different body fat standards depending on age.
Hmmm this is really weird. I was in the same exact position you were in 2 years ago before joining a military college and they were super strict with the weight. And when I say super I mean it. WWe have the same build but I’m 2 inches taller, so I was thinking. Maybe with enlisting you need to be a certain weight to continue the enlisting process and once you get to MEPS they will give you a deadline to drop the weight and be 26%. Also don’t you find it odd that the larger you neck is the lower your Body fat % is ??? Never got that. As for dieting, You should find out when you go to get weighed again and the week before eat practically nothing. I did this for 2 weeks and it helped me. I just drank a ton of water, and had special k bars for breakfast and lunch then for dinner I ate salad. ITs hard the first few days but you get use to it. Just be strong and since your unemployed it may be harder to do since you have alot more free time on your hands to think about hunger. GOOD LUCK
How to cope with a really low self image?
I am 136 pounds and 5’4. I have checked weight charts to see if I am overweight and according to various charts, I am supposedly in a healthy weight, but that isn’t how I feel. I used to ignore what I did: I would criticize myself almost every hour and look at celebrities like Nicole Richie to make myself feel bad. I lost 30 pounds before, but I did it in the healthy way and now I’m scared that I’m going to resort to bulimia or anerexia. I wish I could change my self image, but it seems like I can’t! My friends and family have told me to stop trying to lose more weight because I have become obsessed. Whenever I have free time, I go on the internet and search weight loss methods. My self image is taking over my life. I have such low confidence and I’m not who I used to be anymore. I can’t even talk to people without thinking that they think I’m ugly/fat. I get angry when I look in the mirror and even when I do look good, I try to make myself feel worse by comparing myself to celebrities or very good looking people. It’s just that everyone seems prettier/thinner than me and it’s like I need to always be better and even when I lose 5 pounds, I’m never satisfied. Is there a way I can love myself the way I am because I wish I could.
The problem also cuts into my social life and my love life. I think it’s getting really extreme and I wasn’t born with it because I remember when I was heavier, I didn’t even care what other people thought. It’s going so far that when guys come up to me and ask me for my number, I get mad because I think it’s a joke. And if I go to the library or a store and I see someone in an aisle that I am going to, I completely turn around and go somewhere else. Please help. thanks
STOP comparing you to celebrities. They are all miserable people. Many girls are having problems these days because they compare themselves to celebrities. Television is bad for a persons mind. You don;t have to be extremely skinny to be pretty, but judging by your height and weight you seem to be in good shape. I am 5”0′ and i weigh more than you. If you ask guys what they think is sexy on a girl skin and bones ain’t what they want. When you look in the mirror tell your self your beautiful. Confidence is the key to get you on the right track.

Weight loss! guys help!?
OK so I’m 5’8″ 19 and 175 pounds.I’m about 15% body fat according to electrical impedance testing. But unfortunately the body fat I do have loves to sit on top of my torso and lower stomach. Any ideas on how to lose 15 pounds in the next 2 weeks or so? My metabolism is kinda horrible but i used to be 265 pounds and my old methods just won’t work.
When you are losing weight, you should exercise and diet together.
If you exercise without dieting, you will get bigger appetite, which
will lead to increase of weight, or muscle grow
underneath the fat layer, and make you bulkier. If you diet without
exercising, you will become flabby and will have excess skin. For
diet, go wheat free. No pasta, pizza, bread and so on. And no food
after 7 p.m. People achieve marvellous results with it. Depending on
your initial weight, you can drop upwards from 20 pounds a month. If
you don’t eat wheat then you don’t eat all those sticky, fatty goey
cakes, you don’t eat junk food, and you don’t eat biscuits. But your
diet is still balanced. It costs nothing, and you do not have to
calculate points or to buy special meals or plans. For exercising,
start with walking, and then switch to running/jogging. Running is the
most efficient and calorie-burn exercise ever. If you are overweight a
lot, walk first or you may have health complications (heart attack,
disjointed bones and so on). Weight lifting is a good means to target
your problem areas for men and women. It’s not necessarily to become a
bodybuilder or even join a gym – a couple of dumbbells will help you
to target your problem areas (stomach, butt, legs, arms, chest).
